The account already exists, the storage is paid for, a link is quickly sent. For eighty guests, four questions come up:
- Does the guest need an account? Not with Dropbox file requests; with a shared iCloud album, yes; with Google it isn’t stated.
- Does the original quality arrive? Not in shared iCloud albums: photos ‘am langen Rand auf 2048 Pixel reduziert’, video up to 720p — permanently.
- How big is the limit? 15 GB free with Google, 5 GB with iCloud and OneDrive, 2 GB with Dropbox Basic.
- When does it disappear again? WeTransfer deletes after 3 days on the free plan, SwissTransfer after 15 days.

iCloud costs you resolution
2048 pixels on the long edge is permanent. For a 20 × 30 cm print at the usual 300 dpi, that isn’t enough; it covers around 17 cm.
A folder is not a wall

And WhatsApp or Telegram?

When another tool is the better fit
As soon as eighty guests are meant to contribute, the account question becomes a problem, and 2 to 15 GB of free space is rarely enough for a wedding with videos. An album solves both — opening the link is enough, and the tier depends on event size. Except in these four cases:
- Everyone uses the same brand and the loss of quality doesn’t matter: a shared iCloud album costs nothing and doesn’t expire.
- The photographer is sending one big folder: SwissTransfer takes 50 GB per transfer, without an account.
- Ten guests, few files, no video: a Dropbox file request is enough.
- You only want to look at the photos, never print them.

Can guests upload photos without an account of their own?

Yes. Apple writes that shared photos are ‘am langen Rand auf 2048 Pixel reduziert’; videos go up to 720p.
Does ‘Dateien anfordern’ work on a personal OneDrive too?
According to Microsoft’s help page, no: the article covers OneDrive for Business and lists the feature as not available for ‘OneDrive für privat’.
